solidThinking Inspire® Team Wins 2014 MSED Platinum Award

Congratulations to the solidThinking Inspire® team, which was honored by the Marketing and Sales Executives of Detroit (MSED) with its prestigious Platinum Award at the 21st Annual Black Tie Gala on November 20th, held at the Detroit Athletic Club in downtown Detroit, Michigan. MSED is a local professional association that recognizes excellence in marketing and sales that can be demonstrably linked to the achievement of critical business goals.

Traditional computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools are used by highly trained specialists downstream of concept development.  By pulling topology optimization into early concept development, solidThinking Inspire changes this paradigm, representing a novel approach for promoting simulation-driven design in product development.  A critical success factor for product adoption was generating awareness of solidThinking Inspire among design engineers.  The solidThinking Inspire team needed to win their “hearts and minds” by proving a significant business case: that increasing upfront analysis capabilities improves the likelihood of achieving an optimal design, reduces time and effort on design iterations, and can potentially save material cost and weight.

The team behind the creation and launch of solidThinking Inspire 2014 was comprised of Jim Hassberger, president, solidThinking, Inc.; James Dagg, chief technical officer, modeling and visualization, Altair Engineering, Inc.; Andrew Bartels, program manager, solidThinking, Inc.; Chad Zamler, marketing manager, solidThinking, Inc.; Jason Napolitano, executive vice president, global sales, solidThinking, Inc.; and Tony Norton, executive vice president, Altair ProductDesign, Inc.  Pictured from left to right in the photo above are Chad Zamler, Jim Hassberger, and Tony Norton, on hand at the gala to collect the award on behalf of the entire team.

The MSED Annual Black-Tie Gala Dinner is an event honoring exceptional accomplishments of business executives and marketing and sales professionals, with this year’s proceeds directed toward the MSED College Scholarship Fund.  Since 2002, MSED has awarded over $80,000 in scholarships to students pursuing a career in sales and marketing at nearby universities.  In addition, over the past 12 years, MSED has donated more than $116,000 to Detroit-area charities including Junior Achievement® of Southeastern Michigan, MINDS, and Focus: HOPE.

This year, two Platinum Awards sponsored by Corp! Magazine were presented to outstanding individuals or teams that helped their companies successfully market and sell a new product or service, or launch an existing product or service to a new market.  Nominees were judged based upon a) obstacles overcome in order to achieve success; b) creative marketing and/or sales approaches; c) extent to which business goals were exceeded; d) impact on the business and its associated industry; e) exemplary teamwork exhibited; and f) financial scope and magnitude of the contribution. Six finalists were named, with the two winners in bold:

  1. solidThinking Inspire Product Team, Altair
  2. Management Team, Electronics Remanufacturing Company
  3. Chromtec Lightweight Composite Wheels Team, Lacks wheel Trim Systems
  4. Acoustic Material Team, 3M Automotive Division
  5. Scott Taylor, 3M Automotive Division
  6. Starbucks Sales Team, Productions Plus

Thank you for recognizing the solidThinking Inspire Product Team as a winner for the 2014 MSED Platinum Award! This is a huge shared accomplishment, with credit going to many people in the engineering community at solidThinking and Altair. You have created an amazing product and it has been the team’s pleasure to share its story with others.
