Optimum and Robust Simulation

How to find directly optimum and robust simulation solution?
Usually geometric parameter values are taken in a range with tolerances. For instance the parameter HEIGHT measures 10 mm +/- 0.5 mm. These tolerances are mainly due to the precision of the manufacturing process and they are unavoidable. When performing optimization on geometric parameters it is important to take these tolerances into account in order to ensure the robustness of the optimum solution. Thanks to the functionality “worst case deviation” available in GOT-It software since version 3.0 it is possible to take tolerances of uncertain parameters into account during the optimization in order to find out together optimum and robust solution. This functionality can be used for the optimization of analytical and numerical models as well.
The procedure to define robust optimization on FEM is presented on the figure below:

The robust optimization allows finding out together optimum and robust solution. That is less sensitive to parameter variations in comparison with the conventional optimization.
