I am taking the Altair bike on a journey! Follow me, and find out how it all began.
This entry documents my major rides in September and October.
All-Time Distance to Date: 13,314 Miles And Counting.
September Rides Highlights
There were several rides I did at the end of August and beginning of September before my two week trip to Shanghai, China. On August 29th, I went on a 43-mile Cyclocross morning ride on the West Bloomfield Trail to Clinton River Trail, and then to the Macomb Orchard Trail. It rained at the end of the ride, but I was glad to see a couple of my old friends during the trip!
On September 2nd, I went on a ride with Chris Butler and we called it the Altairian Altair-Armada-Altair Alternative to Work (AAAAAW)! It was a 53-mile ride from Altair Headquarters in Troy, MI to Armada, MI in nice 90°F weather. It took about 3 hours to complete and it was definitely an enjoyable ride in the afternoon.
At the end of the month, I went on a two-week business trip to Shanghai and it was an amazing experience! The trip certainly set me back, but I’m confident that I’ll reach 10,000 miles this year!
October Rides Highlights
It was a little difficult to start riding after two weeks of no exercise in China! Being inactive for so long certainly has consequences on my fitness as well as my ankle injury. As a result, I decided to not participate in the 11th Annual JDRF Exhale Fall Charity Ride in Metamora, MI due to the course being mainly uphill. However, I did my best to compensate the lost miles with group and solo rides.
On October 1st, I went on a solo ride in Orchard Lake, MI and was simply amazed by the beautiful sunset! It really reminded me of why I continue to bike – it was such a rewarding view.
On October 4th, I went on a 126.5-mile group ride to Lake Erie Metro Park. It was cold and windy, and my ankle was still bothering me. But it felt great to be able to get back to my cycling routine! A couple days after, I went on a great evening ride with my friends, some of them on Cyclocross bike, some on mountain bikes, to the Barnum Park in Birmingham, MI.
In mid-October, I went on a 61-mile CX loop on gravel with Chris to the Clinton River and Paint Creek Trails in West Bloomfield, MI. At the end of this month, I completed four long rides, three of which were Century loops with my friends and group on many local trails; they totaled to over 400 miles, a couple were in strong winds and cold weather. Fall is definitely here, but it’s still comfortable enough for rides! So far, I’ve completed over 8,200 miles this year, and I’m excited and confident that I’ll be able to reach my 10,000-mile goal!
