Altair has completed its acquisition of Visual Solutions, Inc. The transaction was complete on August 20, 2014. The addition of VisSim™, an innovative visual language for mathematical modeling, simulation, and model-based embedded system development, brings expertise in embedded controls to Altair’s math and system simulation portfolio.
Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Westford, Massachusetts, Visual Solutions, Inc., is the developer of VisSim. VisSim has been used in projects ranging from process control, aerospace, mechatronics, electric motor control, pulp and paper, nuclear, wind and hydro power to data communications, economics, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and biomedical applications. Customers include Ametek, Black & Decker, Boeing, Caterpillar, Philips Health Care, Siemens, Texas Instruments and United Technologies. The integration of VisSim with HyperWorks will allow our customers to virtually optimize controllers using model-based embedded system development and couple this technology with our structural/optimization solutions to enhance our electro-mechanical offerings.
“Product innovation is increasingly driven by embedded systems, prompting higher demand for powerful development and testing tools,” said Michael Hoffmann, Senior Vice President, Math and Systems at Altair. “Visual Solutions has been at the forefront of this domain for over twenty years. Altair is in the business of helping customers drive innovation by the use of computer-aided engineering in the product development process. A move to expand our portfolio in the direction of embedded systems is a logical extension of the company’s commitment to simulation-driven design.”
VisSim has always exhibited impressive performance vis-à-vis its competitors, and Altair’s competency in computer-aided engineering (CAE) will complement the offering to create a more complete and integrated design environment for users.
“Partnering with Altair will bring current and future VisSim users many benefits, including integration with a world-class engineering organization and software portfolio,” noted Peter Darnell, President and Owner of Visual Solutions. “Moreover, Altair’s steadfast commitment to elite customer service and technical support mirrors our own and bodes well for the future.”
